1 Minute Motivator: Give It Some Welly

What kind of day do you have ahead of you today? In some circles, Wednesday has been referred to as ‘hump’ day as you get past the middle of the week and the weekend starts approaching at increasing speed. If this is the case, you might approach today with a certain feeling of lethargy. Here at Give A Brick, we’re going to use this Wednesday to kick the lethargy out the door. Today, whatever you do, give it some welly!

If you’re not familiar with this quaint British turn of phrase, it is basically an encouragement to tackle everything with gusto and enthusiasm. (Imagine a racing car driver who needed to go faster. You might yell at him, “give it some welly!” He’d put his foot to the floor and go faster. You wear a wellington boot (welly) on your foot. Bingo! There’s the origin of that little gem ;) )

Instead of handling the day with familiar resignation, imagine that this is the first and last time you’ll be tackling the task at hand. I’m not keen on changing dirty nappies but if I knew it would be the last one I’d ever have to do, even that task would be undertaken with a little more joy ;)

Go on, give it a try. And remember to come back and tell us how you did.

Give it some Welly :) I love it! I havent heard of it, but I will give it a shot. I live across the pond from you. I love the expressions you have. Changing dirty nappies :) I will actually be doing a lot of that pretty soon. My wife is due with our 4th child on February 12th. Geez I think I am going to be a little busy. I will need all the motivation I can get! Thank you!

Wow, 4 children! I have three so I can appreciate how busy your house is already ;) I trust your wife is keeping well and you’re looking after her wonderfully. You could dust off some recipes for her and bake her something yummy ;)

As for expressions, I had my suspicions that it was not a commonly used phrase outside of the UK, hence my explanation :)

All the best for the 12th. If she goes a little late your newest little one can share their birthday with my eldest. That would be very cool ;)

Yes with well 3 almost 4 children I don’t have a lot of time to do the blogging thing. I guess thats why I don’t post so often, but I really do enjoy it. It certainly would be wonderful if I could do it full time and stay home with the kids and family. Well I guess you can dream right. I never thought there was such a community of bloggers out there. Its pretty cool :)

So well see when the baby comes maybe it will come early or late. One never knows :)

I agree. I didn’t realise how much blogger love there is out there until I started on here. People seem to connect and talk in a really open way. That’s one of the reasons why I’m so excited about turning this into a community blog. I can’t wait to see what folks come up with.

As for working from home, never say never ;)
