1 Minute Motivator: That little extra push

by El

Do you ever have occasions where despite your best intentions, things don’t go quite as smoothly as you might have hoped? Or maybe you stayed up late working at your PC and then your youngest sleeps uncharacteristically badly? Or, it’s still only February. Spring feels a long way off and you’re feeling fed up, grey and miserable?

If you can relate to any of these feelings or similar, today’s one minute motivator is for you. What do you do when everything just feels like far too much effort? Try a little harder. Battle through the grey, through the tiredness, through the gloom and shove your way out the other side. Celebrate and give yourself the proverbial pat on the back because you made it!

Some days you wake up feeling like a super-star but if today is not one of those days, take comfort in the fact that you are not alone. Somebody somewhere is feeling just like you are. Take today a little bit at a time, push on and before you know it, you might even start enjoying yourself ;)

Eleanor,

I really resonate with this post. A few months ago I was waking feeling like the things I had to do that day were far too much. However, now I’m taking my days in a more relaxed fashion and enjoying my life.

Thank you

That’s excellent Paul. It’s really scary how much of our external world is controlled in our minds isn’t it? I’ve heard it said that an author’s first novel is autobiographical but for me, I often find this series is like an ongoing autobiography. This post for example was written from where I was sitting at right that second. It was what I needed to hear and so I shared it in the hope it would help someone else. Having just confessed that secret, be sure you don’t tell anyone OK? ;)

Eleanor,

Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.

Hi Eleanor,

I must admit that sometimes when I’m just not feeling that motivated, I do try and push through to the end. I make myself do the things that I know are good for me, but just don’t want to to.

On the other hand, I have been known to just say No to what I don’t want to do, and stay in bed or veg for an entire day. It’s much better to face what’s troubling you, but sometimes you just have to accept that no matter what, you need to take a mental health day and take a break from everything. I guess it’s my way of recharging my batteries :-)

Wouldn’t you agree?

Thanks,
Karen

I agree totally. Sometimes the only solution is a good hot bath, cup of tea and your favourite novel :) On those days its a case of just doing the bare essentials and then being kind to yourself.

Mmmmmm, the thought of a long soak in the tub sounds fab right now. My body is aching so I can’t decide between a bath or an early night. Knowing me, I’ll just tinker on here for another hour until it really is bed time ;)

The big trick for me is to start doing something. Usually after starting I can sort everything out.

Hi Ralph,
You’re right. Starting can often be the hardest thing to do. And like I intimated to Karen in the comment above, too often I’m guilty of procrastinating for so long, I then lose the option of deciding what to start!
