Have you ever walked toward someone in the street and thought how grumpy they looked? What about when you look at the people around you in work today? Or maybe the parents on the yard, how are they looking today?
Today you are going to make one person’s day. When you’re out and about today and you pass someone you don’t know, smile at them. Watch for their reaction. Did they smile back? And what happened to their features when they smiled at you?
You’re probably going to feel a little bit odd smiling at people you don’t know. However, keep at it. I’m not advocating smiling at every single person you come into contact with (although you can if you’d like to
) I’m just asking you to try and share a few smiles around today.
And what if you’re the person feeling thoroughly grumpy and fed up? Remember that pretend smiles carry all the health benefits of the genuine variety. Keep smiling, even if you don’t feel like it, and those fakes may turn into the real thing before you know it.
Over to you. What happened when you smiled at a stranger?
