Water, exercise, vitamin supplements. These are all said to have health benefits. But can you have too much of a good thing? The quick answer is yes but if you’ve got longer than a minute, don’t take my word for it. There are lots of articles explaining the problem of having too much water, exercise and vitamin supplements.
But that’s not really the point of today’s one minute motivator. Instead, we’re thinking today about the benefits of moderation. Now would probably be as good a time as any to confess that this motivator is written in response to a the aches and pains currently rattling through my legs and hips. Yesterday I made a decision to get a bit more exercise. As a result, we walked to school and back several times rather than taking the car. This continued today and now my legs are protesting
You can have too much of a good thing
It’s Saturday. You might decide to have a lovely relaxed Saturday moring breakfast. Wonderful but take your time. You can have too much of a good thing.
Spring is on it’s way. I woke up to birds singing this morning. Many people like to give their homes a good clean and de-clutter. That sounds like a great idea too but do you really have to do it all today? You can have too much of a good thing
I wrote about the curse of procrastination but the opposite equally has it’s pitfalls. Instead of living life at one extreme or the other, why not instead aim for balance?

Eleanor,
An interesting post about moderation. I hadn’t really thought about moderating things in my life other than the ones that create pain or heartache. An interesting concept.

Even honey can make you sick so personally, I believe it’s all about balance. (Although I love Ralph’s point too
)
Interesting, I’ve heard that too many vitamins is a bad thing, and agree with it. I’ve heard of too much water being a bad thing, but in order for it to be a bad thing, you really need to drink A LOT of water (to the point of drowning yourself from the inside out). In terms of exercise, I’ve never heard of that one, but will make sure I exercise a decent amount without over doing it.

Hi Victor,
Thanks for your comments. What you say about water is true for exercise. You’d really need to go overboard for it to be a problem. Vitamins, water and exercise were really just meant as illustrations of the dangers of extremes. I don’t know your exercise regime but I’m sure you’ll be fine

I think moderation is overrated. Why be average?

Does moderation have to mean average? I guess moderation could imply boring and I certainly don’t want to be that
Perhaps tomorrow’s 1 mm should be about being exceptional instead?
