At this time of year, it’s very easy to feel like Winter is never going to end. If you have birthdays in your family in these cold post-Christmas months or you live in warmer parts, it might not seem so dreadful. However, many people can feel physically dreadful, not to mention mentally drained, by the time they get to February.
Today, that is not going to be you. Have you ever noticed that the more you think about how dark and gloomy it is, the more dark and gloomy you feel? Or those days when you’ve slept badly? How much more tired do you feel if you think about it?
For one day, try turning your aches and pains on their head. Take the negative, find the positive, and focus on that instead. Reflecting on the examples above, instead of thinking about how dark and gloomy it is, remember that you’re warm and safe and cozy.
Did you sleep like a mouse at a cat convention? Think about how well you’re doing getting through each task, one at a time. Remember it won’t be long until bed time comes and you can get a good rest.
There are exceptional exceptions but most daily gripes can be transformed into something positive to focus on. Give it a try today and let us know how you get on.
Over to you. How did you transform the negative into the positive? Did it help?

Thanks for the motivation talk. It isn’t always easy to turn negativity into something positive, but I too believe that we need to.

Hi Rose,
I think about those people who are strong in the most tragic of circumstances. I don’t know how they do it but I bet the tragic times weren’t the first time they tried.
You’re right. It can feel very difficult sometimes. But like most things, it probably gets easier with practice

Well. for me the short dark days of winter are wonderful times to focus on writing. I associate them with productivity and I don’t have the urge to get outside. There is always an advantage that a negative provides. You just have to take the time and trouble to find it.

Actually, yesterday my wife and I noticed that the days are starting to get lighter so things aren’t so bad after all..

I agree, it’s amazing how quickly the nights start to draw out. Funny thing is, I always start to notice it about this time when the gloom of late Winter threatens to take over.
