After being officially registered as a charity in late 2007 it seems we’ve been on something of a slow burn. (Just writing 2007 whilst I’m sat here in a brand new decade feels like being hit round the face with a bag of over ripe apples.) I’m not the most patient person ever (stop sniggering!) so remembering this slow start can very easily cause me to waste hours analysing why.
However, one of the most exciting things from 2009 (aside from the complete redesign of the website and getting sponsorships pages via BMyCharity) is that you raised enough money to complete phase 1 of our first project. The community centre for Cross Hands and Gorslas (hosted to the rear of Cross Hands Christian Centre) now has foundations!
I can’t lie. I would love to be writing this whilst raising funds for the final phase of this project (or even whilst funding raising for our next project) but I’m not. That forced me to reflect on the subject of motivation. As my family will atest to, I am a very tenacious character. Despite this, I couldn’t complete this round up of 2009 without a quick seach on the web for motivation.
Naturally I searched the web via our favourite ever search engine, Every Click. (As an aside, they donate 1p every single time you search using their site. Check them out if you’re new to the service.) As you can imagine, searching for ‘motivation’ brought up thousands of results but it was a quote from Henry Ford that caught my eye:
“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.”
I’m not sure this is entirely accurate. I can think I can play the piano as much as I like but if you were forced to listen to the noise I produce, you wouldn’t think it a game. However, it’s a great quote for encouraging one to persevere and to never give up a trying.
Is that a noble quest? Is there ever a time when it’s better to call it quits? After all, it was infamous clever man Albert Einstein who defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
That leads me full circle to where we started this discussion. Yes, we at Give A Brick have been a little slow at coming forward. However, one thing I am assured of is that we have not spent the last 24 months doing the same things over and over again. We are moving forward and I for one am excited to see where 2010 takes us.

I agree with you. I must find the photo’s of the foundations that I took as they were constructed. Foundations seems an inadequate word for a building on a slope – they must be 10 feet tall at the far end!

Thanks DrEgg,
They’d be useful on the ‘our first project’ page too.
Photos of the 10ft concrete slab would be fab
