The first project which Give A Brick is suppporting is the annexe at Cross Hands Christian Centre. Between you and I, whilst their WC is not up to my usual royal stantards
, they’re OK for use once a week on a Sunday. But Cross Hands Christian Centre are striving to build what they nickname “Community @ CHCC”
What’s that about?!
A community centre for Cross Hands and the surrounding area, hosted at CHCC.
The lovely people at CHCC are celebrating and praising God this week because they’ve been given permission to build the annexe a little at a time. You’d be forgiven for wondering why that was such a big deal – is it really worthy of hanging out the banners?!
You better believe it!
The church needed permission from the Baptist Union (BU) to even build the annexe.. They got this but the BU set a few conditions, one of which was that the funds for the total cost of the build had to be in place before starting.
Months ago, the church’s minister spent some time going through the book of Joshua. Joshua chapter 3 tells how God parted the Jordan so that the people could get across without boats or swimming shorts. It’s a fab read, really inspiring as God works this miracle for the people.
Great history lesson, how is that relevant to today? Is the bible relevant today?
That’s a whole new post but the answer is that it is very relevant. The priests were told to go first and the exciting bit is that as soon as their feet were wet, the water stopped flowing upstream. Now I don’t know much about geography but I do know that ‘upstream’ means the bit they weren’t standing in!
So they walked into this river and somewhere a bit further away, the water stopped flowing. The water just sort of piled up in a big heap (I imagine God’s hand holding it all there) the rest of the water flowed into the sea, leaving dry
ground and no need for swimwear
Just to add to the mircaulous nature of this walk in the river, it was at a time of the year when the river was flooded. It feels like God chose to do it this way so that there could be no doubt that this really was a miracle.
“But how is that relevant?” you may be screaming at the screen.
Why? Did you miss it? The water didn’t stop until they got their feet wet! Imagine for a second what might have happened if the priests had said they weren’t keen on wading that day, they’d only just got their sandals clean and would rather find another way! That’s a rhetorical imaginary scenario …
So back to 2008, CHCC want to get their feet wet. God knows everything so He knows what’s on their hearts but they don’t know it unless they do it. It’s like with Abraham being tested (Genesis 22). Did He love and trust God enough to offer his son, Isaac as a sacrifice? God knew the answer was yes but until he faced that situation, Abraham
didn’t know.
CHCC trust God that He will provide the means to build this annexe and God knows how much they trust Him but unless they actually get their feet wet, they won’t know just how much they really do trust Him.
So how do they get their feet wet? They start the annexe. They clear the site and start the foundations and … OK, I’m not a building expert but you get the idea I’m sure
Because the BU had said that all funds must be in place first, this was stopping them getting their feet wet so today is a day for celebration because God has cleared the way for them to go paddling and get absolutely soaking!
Scary eh?! Awesome? Inspiring?
Exciting – you bet!
