Friday Friend: @TheDrEgg #FollowFriday

A little later than planned (I had a blog post buzzing around my brain that had to be set free last night when I should have been editing the video below) welcome to this week’s Follow Friday. If you’re a regular visitor you’ll have seen him around here before but it is my pleasure to introduce Give A Brick’s treasurer (and my dad!) Mike Simmons, aka Dr Egg. If you don’t already, you can follow him on Twitter and I’m pleased to announce that he’ll be tweeting on behalf of Give A Brick too.

Next Friday afternoon, Dr Egg is having is head shaved on behalf of Give A Brick. It’s being done in The Temple of Peace in Cardiff @ 2pm so if you’re a little local, it would be fantastic to see you. I’ll tell you more about Dr Egg’s Hair Shaving Adventure at the end of this post but first, here is his interview:

I had to edit out the usual quick fire round as it was already getting longer than I wanted. However, you’ll be pleased to hear that the quick fire round will be posted below just as soon as I get it uploaded ;)

So, about next Friday. Many months ago I said I’d shave my hair off for GAB, but I’d want to raise £10K before doing so. My lovely husband joined forces with my mum and they told me I wasn’t allowed to. Yes, I know I’m a grown up but I’ve learned it’s never good to quarrel with my mum ;)

Dr Egg stepped up to the plate and many months later, (and thanks in part of a kind legacy of £2K left to GAB by my grandmother in her will) he’s now raised the promised £10K. This would have been impossible without the support, encouragement, tweets and donations from you so give yourself a pat on the back and thank you :)

If you’ve not yet given a brick, it’s never too late to do so. You can Give A Brick very easily via Paypal or Charity Choice by clicking on these words. Thank you :)

OO having your head shaved is a scary thought for me, I have lovely long locks and I don’t think I could do it, no matter what a good cause it was for, I must say that you are very brave. Good Luck ;)

Believe me, I don’t have lovely long lock – I have scraggly grey ones and it will be a delight to loose them! I don’t feel brave, I feel relieved and so does my poor, long suffering wife. It gives me an opportunity to be an “all over Egg”. I believe it was my bald head popping up on TV that earned me my nick-name, Dr Egg.

Oooo…. we finally get to see the shaving eh? That’ll be fun :)

Interesting interview, and it was definitely nice to hear more about you Mike! I have a question though; when are you starting your own blog? :P

      Yep, the full egg-head!

My own blog? The domain is registered but main concern is finding sufficient time to write. I also need an administrator to show me how to set it up. Hmm! Now who do I know??????

Finding time isn’t too difficult (at least, that’s what I’ve found) – the main challenge at first seems to be stopping yourself writing extra all the time!

Maybe prod El, or Dave (Website in a weekend), or you could ask me but that may be a bit entertaining for all ;)

Eleanor has indeed offered but we will probably wait until after her well-earned holiday. It will be around my current job as I am keep to get people to understand how to help themselves, their family and there community, therefore “Public Health and Well-being”.

Meant to be putting the children to bed but just wanted to cut in. Assuming you can point the dns to the nameservers, I can set this up for you tomorrow. Even give you a quick lesson ;)

And before you say it can wait, would be better to do now so that you could be in a better position to maintain this place in my absense. Just a thought :)

She’s making a valid point you know =)

Besides, if you need help while El’s not around feel free to ask me at any point.
