I agree, it’s healthy to sometimes agree to disagree but that can always be done in a kind, respectful way. I’m sure developing this community is going to mean a lot of learning on the run but it should be fun

My wife always accuses me of talking rubbish. Looks like she was right in this instance!

I think that’s a great idea about setting standards for your community.

Whilst I’m sure that majority of people agree with the things you’ve said, I’m sure there’s going to be some that don’t (and a good thing too as it helps form the conversation). However, there’s just no need for people to be rude or offensive.

if they can’t say anything nice, then don’t let them say anything at all!

I agree. Back in August when we weren’t really posting regularly on here, I’d get very excited that I had 13 comments on the blog, only to find they were all spam! I activated Akismet and bingo, sorted I didn’t even know it made mistakes until yesterday!

Hi Ralph,
I suspect I didn’t explain myself too well back there. The guidelines above are just that, guidelines. As James has shown you, you can set certain things within Akismet (such as automatically sending any comment with more than a certain number of links to the spam folder) but as for leaving a ‘real’ name (or alias, in the case of our good friends James, Sire and The Dragon Blogger) that’s just my personal preference.

Rose left has left some lovely comments which (until today) have always seemed to end up in the spam folder. But I suspect that Akismet must learn quickly because after telling it about four times yesterday that Rose wasn’t writing spam, it seems to have learned by today

I love akismet, it’s awesome, I have it stop over 70 in one day, although usually it’s only about 20-30 a day.
