We’re a fairly all embracing charity. We have a remit as wide as a house covering children, young people, elderly people and people facing financial hardship. The really fabulous thing about a wide remit is it gives us the potential to make a difference to a lot of individual lives. That excites me.
I’ve just got back from a holiday but ordinarily, I like to think I work pretty hard here at Give A Brick. OK, so it’s not manual labour but it takes time and energy to get these grey cells going
However, if us being here makes a difference to one person, that makes it all worthwhile. Having said that, I’d rather we help as many people as possible!
To that end, I’m keen to develop this space into something of a resource. One of my big, hairy, audacious aspirational goals is to see a Give A Brick community facility in every town in the UK. Is it possible? I believe so, otherwise, why have it as a goal?
But, even if we realise this dream, there will never be enough GAB centres to serve the whole wide world. And that’s where today’s post comes in.
Leaning heavily on Dave “Website in a Weekend” Doolin for inspiration, I’m looking for regular writers for Give A Brick. In particular, I’m looking for writers who can write to fit within our remit. I’m looking for a paediatrician, a money expert (and if Martyn Lewis says no, a rather cool accountant has just popped into my head), someone who can write inspiring stuff for young people (actually, scratch that one, it’s covered), a parenting expert, a business type expert person who can give advice on writing CVs, preparing for interview and all the other ‘work’ type issues.
What else? I really need someone who can write for the older generation. At present I’m guessing that not many of our elderly remit are online but I might be wrong and that is going to change over time. I actually have a Cantankerous Coot in mind for this but in case he says no, talk to me if you’re interested.
The list is not exhaustive. If you have something to contribute, talk to me. I love enthusiasm!
Here’s what I need from our team of experts:
- A commitment to post once per month. If you find you’re enjoying it and want to write more, this is certainly a possibility we can talk about.
- You’ll have your own account here at Give A Brick with your name, link and bio. We run this site using Word Press. Therefore, if you don’t already work in Word Press, best go practice
- I’ll need you to subscribe to the comments on your posts. This is a community site and as such, I love it when the community talk to each other and our writers.
And I think that’s it
I’m sure there’s something I’ve missed out. Let me know what it is.
Thanks,
El x

Eleanor, this is a great idea. I recommend you twist at least a half dozen articles in advance out of anyone stepping up. This demonstrates commitment on their part, reduces your nag time, ensures everyone is making a promise they can keep, and let’s you actually schedule these articles months in advance.
And yes, for everyone listed as staff on Website In A Weekend, I already have articles in queue through December.

Great advice, thanks Dave. As you know, it was our conversation about your staff writers that led to this whole ‘aha’ moment of mine on here. I already have three confirmed (including my dad so I expect I’ll have to nag a little there!) and I can’t wait to get this rolling.
[...] people saying wonderful stuff. I wrote copy for a website last night. That was well received too. The search for experts over at Give A Brick is on, and that’s really exciting. So why do I feel so [...]
When I’m back from Canada I could do a column thingmy *nod* Bit too much in the works just now personally though (speaking of, they may be delayed by a week).
Still a great idea and good luck finding people!

Eleanor,
Don’t know if it is possible to channel cantankerosity into something you can use but let’s talk.

Hey Eleanor,
I am currently setting momentum back into my blog but I feel energized after returning home and having a ton of time off. I know I tried writing a couple posts in the past but I think with all of this ample time and if my inspiration continues maybe we can talk over what I can contribute. Also thanks for the pass by’s on my blog during my break. It meant a lot to me you still showed interest and thought about me
