With today being the last day of Winter (Happy Birthday Joe!
) it felt like as good a time as ever to do a short show case of some of our favourite posts here on Give A Brick. It’s been an exciting couple of months and as I look back over the 138 posts (complete with 863 comments
) we’ve published in the last 10 weeks, I’m astounded by the numbers. How do I pick just a few favourites from these? Tell you what, I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours. OK?
In no particular order, here’s my five favourites and why:
- When Charity doesn’t cost a penny was a pivotal post. It marks the week I realised just what Give A Brick had the potential to achieve as an online community. It was also the post that introduced the idea of community posts.
- Act of random kindness was a hard post to write. If you’ve read it before you’ll understand why
It’s the post that has the potential to very easily make me cry and as such, it had to be in my top 5.
- Life without limb? Life without limits features the amazing Nick Vujicic and if we’re doing a round up, it deserves to be watched again. This too brings tears to my eyes. Thanks must go to Matthee Needham from The Big Red Tomato Company who first brought this video to my attention.
- If you want to take over the world, look to young people was 6aliens.com’s Ben Lumley‘s first community post. Working as he does with young people, he clearly knows what he’s talking about. This post also fits beautifully with Give A Brick’s remit to make life better for young people so it had to be included in the round up.
- And finally, I couldn’t complete the round up without including at least one post from our popular 1 Minute Motivator series. They’re even starting to show up on page 1 of Google which I found highly exciting
The most popular of these (based on the number of clicks via su.pr) is called Give it your all. Conveniently, it is one of the posts written to our new structure, something I was keen to show case here.
So those are 5 of my favourites. There are lots more that I could have included but let’s leave it at five and hand the floor over to you. Which are your favourites and why?

Excellent posts. I think it’s hard to choose. I like the 1 minute motivators, I liked the Dr Egg video talking about your community project (I don’t know why it reminded me of the video of the guy in the Italian Job doing who did all the planning for the robbery) !! I also liked the post you did when you won the 4 hr work week.
All good stuff keep it up.

Thanks Matthew. We’ve had some great stuff on here (and don’t think that’s me blowing my own trumpet either, it’s been a team effort with all the community posts and videos) but I agree, Dr Egg’s video is very effective?Did you see the unofficial version? I got told off for the ending
I think one of my favourites was the one where you did that Youtube video showing the building site. Pretty powerful stuff there El

Thanks Heather. That was very fun to put together. And I haven’t forgotten I need to put it up somewhere more prominent
Hehe, in all honesty, I wouldn’t let you forget anyway. So much energy from it, it’d be a shame to hide it away.

What a lovely thing to say. Thanks Heather
I just let my excitement and tongue run loose which is always slightly risky!
I edited out the footage of me leaping off the foundations and running down the hill. The film was running the whole time. Very Challenge Anneka
Hmm.. that may have been interesting to see too lol – but the way you have it works pretty well.
More of those! Well, not exactly the same, but you get the idea.

You’re right Ben. We’ve been priviledged to have some great contributions. Yours fitted brilliantly with the core aims of the charity which is why I selected it. It helps that it was interesting to read too
