Just eleven days ago I published my now infamous wish list and video. The response was amazing, exciting, humbling and a whole load of other emotions I can’t even begin to try and put words to. I meet with the Give A Brick trustees on Sunday afternoon and can’t wait to tell them what you guys have been up to. I wanted therefore to put an update together to show just how awesome the Give A Brick community has been and also to say thank you
Where folk are on Twitter, I’ve included a follow Friday shout out and if a friend is on Facebook, I’ll do my best to tag you when this publishes as a note on there. However, I’m already a little intimidated about this task because I’m afraid of missing anyone out. Therefore, if I don’t mention you, please tell me. I have a hopeless memory so am reliant on looking at old tweets and comments on the blog. It’s far from an infallible method so send me a Twitter DM, Facebook message or email if I’ve forgotten someone and I’ll edit it into the post. Thank you
But where to start? Give love, give time, give money so let’s start at the beginning with all the wonderful people who have given us love over the last eleven days. I had hoped to make this list a full list dating way back from January but it was impossible. It would have taken me until next Friday to write it! Incidentally, if you’re not sure what I mean by ‘Give Love’, I’m really talking about all the encouragement, re-tweets, fabulous comments and articles written about us. And not to forget the Twitter shout outs on Follow Friday and Charity Tuesday. This job would be a lot less fun without your love
Yes, this is a big long list of names and if your names not on there, it might not mean much but I can’t let today go by without a whole lot of link love being dolled out by way of thanks. It’s the least I can do
So in chronological(ish!) order, thank you to all these wonderful people for their Twitter love:
Cadilacjax, maria_muir, 6aliens, TylinaVespart, coblyn, bigredtomato, robertbravery, bbukn, kruby, PaulWorswick, discoverpurpose, reachourdreams, Zerocredit_UK, EmmaBrynJones, adrianswinscoe, MzMerica, gillyjamjar, TurnKeyCoach, startat10, accountingforum, ithinksmart, thinkpore, iflame88, animalpark16, Alex_Cann, bryan_harvey, jones_maria, mario_patel, rosewing, philbealeuk, designerpens, miss_smidge, organicguru, N_Fan, websiteweekend, Hedgewytch, Thewallradio, JohnRBates KatrinaAtherton, southrngurl6489, RyanHanzel, TimBrownson, Gr8fulAnnie, judymartin8, AFairCoop, roseasho
That list from the last eleven days is so long I’m actually speechless. And that’s just Twitter! Thank you so, so much
Mustn’t forget Facebook friends of course. These people have been sending us love and encouragement and again, I thank you:
Maria Muir, Mike Simmons, Phillipa Woodhams, Bert Azura Padilla, Ben Lumley, Frank Mason, Craig Woodhams, Ayo Olaniyan, Paul Worswick, Ralph Carlson, Sadie McGarrigle, Heather Craik, Cathy Winnie Belyea, Roy Simmons, Liz Jones, Lisa Jones
And of course, we have a whole truck load of people who have given of their time. This is the exciting bit if you particularly interested in the wish list. I’ll go down the list. Be prepared to be amazed when you are reminded just how awesome this community is.
- Web designer : The fabulous Amanda Farough from Violet Minded has agreed to give Give A Brick an awesome new look. Thanks Amanda
- Video creator: Wonderful Katrina Atherton, Business Director for A Star Media has agreed to help us with a wonderful promotional video for Give A Brick. When I explained that we had zero budget she offered warm fuzzy feelings and referrals as alternate payment terms. Awesome!
- Writers: A whole host of wonderful writers have offered to write for us. We’ve of course already had the brilliant video post from Ben Lumley about The Power of Asking and I can exclusively reveal that Christine Livingston brings us something magic on Monday. I can’t tell you any more but be sure to add us to your RSS reader if you haven’t already. You won’t want to miss it. And of course I can’t finish this category without thanking Heather Craik and Paul Worswick who have also offered to send some writing love our way. Thanks to you all
- Fund-raising strategy: Ben Lumley and Adrian Swinscoe have offered to brain-storm this with me. If others would like to join, it’s not too late. Thanks to the power of technology we can have a fund-raising meet over the miles
- Patron: No news as yet. Keep talking to your friends and their friends
- The Patron’s Song: If you remember, I’d like to put a song together that we can use to woo our potential patron. I’m checking out my new friends on MySpace after the weekend as I suspect there is a lot of creative talent on there. In the meantime, tell me if you’d like to write and/or perform for us
- Ask: This is an ongoing need. Please Give A Brick and then ask your friends to do the same
- Next Project: Still looking
- Promotional video: I have had some brilliant clips from offline and online friends but I need more. Please send your short clip to video@giveabrick.com and if you need more information (or even just something to make you laugh!) check out this short teaser.
- Competitions and auctions: Nothing to report.
- Advertising and Badges: The lovely Maria of Maria Muir.com and Blogger’s Den started the ball rolling by placing Give A Brick adverts on her websites. Since then, Justin Matthews has also added a badge to his site. And I can not of course fail to mention my buddy John Sullivan. He put a Give A Brick badge on his site long before the wish list was even written. Thanks John
- Knowing who you know: This is an ongoing reminder that even when there are things that you can’t do yourself, you might know someone who can. Keep us in mind
- Jing Pro: A feels like a lifetime ago now but less than 48 hours after publishing the wish list, kind Ayo Olaniyan from Discovering Purpose paid for us to go pro with Jing. Thank you again Ayo
And finally, I can not allow this mammoth thank you post to close without thanking all the wonderful people who have given money. You are all super stars too and I thank you from the bottom of my heart:
Jon Bradbury, Matthew Needham, Craig Woodhams, Jess Machin, Heather Craik, Aussie Sire, Ann Durrant, Sadie McGarrigle, Ayo Olaniyan, Howard Stapleton, Dave Doolin, Carlos Velez, Owen Griffiths, Mike Simmons, Roger Saint, Middleware Catering, Maria Muir, Christine Livingston, David Hutchison, Laura & Roger Edmonds, Alex Pashby, Lucy Buck and not forgetting (but failing to name) all the wonderful offline supporters who made it possible for us to complete the first phase of the first project.
Wow! What an amazing time it’s been. And it’s only just begun
Thank you so much again to everyone. It is an absolute privilege to be part of such a wonderful community.

Thanks Jen
Like I said elsewhere, I literally celebrate every single brick that gets given so this list is just a small token of that. As for the goals, you should see what I have up my sleeve

I actually just looked at the list above of things you are looking for to improve the site. It sort of gives an idea of the aspirations you have for going forward. Kudos for outsourcing some of the writing. I’d love to help with that. Shoot me an email with how you want them sent to you and the types of content you are looking for, and I will see what I can do

After our trustees meeting tomorrow, I hope to publish the one, three and five year plan for GAB. There really is some awesome stuff that I believe this community can do. It’s exciting stuff
And thank you
Would love to have you get involved with the writing. You’ve reminded me that I need to set up a page with more information about that so thank you
The site is set up to make all registered users authors so the easiest way is to register but I’ll put more details on a page and email you when it’s up.
Thanks again

Wow, what a humbling experience, Eleanor.
It just goes to show you how big a difference you make that you can touch so many people’s lives and how they reciprocate.
That’s a fantastic response already. “Ask and you shall receive” – what a beautiful example of you asking and all sorts of people know the joy of giving to you.
Thanks for the update.

Truly humbling Karen. I have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming
And putting that list together was a wonderful experience because it’s easy to underestimate the power of all the little things people do but this list is really a demonstration of Give A Brick in action.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend

Hi El,
Kinda speechless at the moment, (imagine that) but it gives me warm fuzzzies too to see the response you’ve gotten. I needed to hear this or see… whatever…. as the good ppl are doing as a charity token. I tend to agree with Karen in asking and you shall receive bit. It is a joy!
And I would like to place the badge on two of my sites if you’d like. I had noticed it on a couple that you mentioned and wondered about it. Feel free to email it too me

Have a great weekend all. (and Heather I am practicing chillaxin…thx) It’s my new word taped to my puter.
